Hey friends! It’s here!
Don’t Turn Around, the newest book in the Cursed Coin series of books by FrightVision, and written by yours truly, is out now! It took a really long time for a few reasons, and there are some stories behind it, which I will get into, but first, links for where you can buy it!
Now, lets talk about the book and its creation!
As soon as I posted about it someone messaged and said, “I thought you said you wouldn’t write a book with another author?!” This is true, I won’t. I don’t work well with others (which will become apparent in a moment.) So what’s the deal? Well, Culliver Crantz is the creator of FrightVision, which is a publishing imprint similar to Goosebumps. Culliver has a series called The Cursed Coin, which is a thirteen book series, of which he asked me to write the penultimate book in. So I did, alone. I pitched him my idea, he approved it, and I wrote it. Then I submitted it to him. That’s it. He created the series and I wrote the book. We didn’t collaborate or anything. So for the folks that have asked me to do projects with them, thank you, I appreciate it, but I am not interested. I can’t share and develop stories with other people. I don’t take notes well. And I am the worst with deadlines. I think this book was supposed to be out a year ago and I slowed the entire process. Culliver has been nothing but amazing in dealing with my nonsense.
One example of my stubbornness, if you’re interested. After the beta readers had read the book, mostly liked it, and I had made changes, the editor wanted something different. They wanted it to be less intense, a different motivation, and a very different ending. And, big surprise, they were right! If we wanted to create a middle grade book that felt like other middle grade books, books that sold, we needed to change. I didn’t want that though. The story I wrote was about selfishness, myopic views, and tragedy. I asked Culliver to publish the story I wrote it, and he stood by me. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated that. These books mean the world to him, and he trusted me. So do me a solid, and if you read the book, leave a rating and review if you liked it. It would go a long way in thanking him for his support. He’s a good man, doing good things for kids.
This story will also be “updated” to be not so kid friendly and will appear in my upcoming short story collection, Bury My Body Somewhere Nice. It’ll be bloody and fun. So check out this version so that you get to witness the evolution of the story!
Thanks for supporting me and my work as an author! I appreciate it, and I appreciate you!!
